ARTIGIANA ITALIANA

ModenaFiere, Italian Crafts approaching its second edition
The Quality Italian Crafts Exhibition is preparing for the 2009 edition. 150 craft companies are ready to enliven the Fair district with the best of a sector which employs, in Emilia Romagna alone, over 340,000 people. At ModenaFiere you can breath in the air of Made in Italy.

They are coming from everywhere in Italy to represent the hundreds of thousands of small manufacturing businesses in our country. Those exhibiting at the Italian Crafts Exhibition, planned to run at ModenaFiere from 27 February to 1 March are tailors, potters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, silversmiths, painters and upholsterers, confectioners and producers of beer and liqueurs. They work wood, iron, slate, glass, wool and textiles and leather. And they extract from these splendid articles: clothes, accessories, furniture and fittings, jewellery, creative objects and toys. True champions of Made in Italy, they are guardians of ancient traditions and talented creators of unique, original products, made to measure. These master craftsmen are presenting their creations in Modena's Fair district and are at the disposal of visitors to explain the materials, techniques and instruments of the ancient trades and to put forward new trends in quality crafts. "The Italian Crafts Exhibition is a unique showcase in Italy which differs from other exhibitions dedicated to crafts due to the rigorous selection of exhibitors and products, all of them Made in Italy. This is an ambitious event which aims to help sensitise public opinion to the topic of quality and to develop business opportunities for craft entrepreneurs» comments Paolo Fantuzzi, Managing Director of ModenaFiere. And there is no doubt it is about business, as craft businesses represent an important slice of Italian business culture. In Emilia Romagna they account for 34% of the corporate sector and employ over 340,000 people. One of the factors behind the success of the more than 148,000 craft companies in the region is the fact that their products are Made in Italy, that is they are characterised by that combination of knowledge, tradition, good taste and innovation which guarantee quality and image.
Italian Crafts is organised by ModenaFiere in association with the crafts organisations of CNA, Lapam and Fam, and with the support of Modena's Chamber of Commerce. The official sponsor for the event is the bank Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna.
The exhibition, which has sponsorship from the Province of Modena and the Municipality of Modena, is further enriched this year by a cultural event - namely the "One hundred and twenty years of the theatre costume tailoring Sartoria Teatrale Alberani" exhibition. The historical wealth of Bolognese tailoring, one of the most ancient in Europe, shall be on show at ModenaFiere during the Italian Crafts Exhibition where costumes, accessories, stage items and documents of the time will recreate the history of the theatre of opera.

The Italian Crafts Exhibition is open to the public during the following hours: Friday 27 February from 3.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. (free entry), Saturday 28 February from 3.00 p.m. to 11.00 p.m. and Sunday 1 March from 10.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
